Time is no longer? (D&C 84:100, D&C 88:110, Revelation 10:6)

And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer:
This verse coined the phrase ’that there should be time no longer’ and the context of Revelation 10:6 is around the second coming and the establishment of Zion. This phrase seems to promote the idea that time will end at first read. However, if we look at other translations of this verse, I think we will see that it is about time coming into focus more than coming to an end. The uncertainty of mortality and temptation will end, and we will have the Millenium.
We should note a key point to all three verses. They are referencing the ushering in of the Millenium which is a time defined word. After the moments referenced in all three verses there is still time because other verses and commentary talk about 1,000 years before satan is loosed again.
Here are a few different translations of that section of Revelation 10:6
- NIV: There will be no more delay!
- Kingdom Translation: This was the oath: that there would be no more time.
- ESV: that there would be no more delay
- Wayment Translation: that there will be no more delay
So all of the translations (including the Wayment translation done by a BYU scholar) translate the greek found in Revelation 10:6 to mean that the delay is over. I think these verses are referencing time as an event not as an abstraction. The event of the second coming is happening.
It is fascinating that all three references are wrapped around the establishment of Zion in the Millenium. The phrase is poetic in the following two references in the Doctrine and Covenants. They are clearly quoting the KJV version of Revelation 10:6.
In D&C 84:100 we have on stanza of the song of Zion in the Millenium.
The Lord hath redeemed his people; And Satan is bound and time is no longer. The Lord hath gathered all things in one. The Lord hath brought down Zion from above. The Lord hath brought up Zion from beneath.
A similar phrase is used in D&C 88:110 and is used in the same poetic context.
And so on, until the seventh angel shall sound his trump; and he shall stand forth upon the land and upon the sea, and swear in the name of him who sitteth upon the throne, that there shall be time no longer; and Satan shall be bound, that old serpent, who is called the devil, and shall not be loosed for the space of a thousand years.
Conclusion
Both references in the Doctrine and Covenants could have the KJV text replaced with the other translations of Revelations 10:6 and could make more sense in the context of the surrounding material.
